Eventually all come to two questions: direction and timing. I guess one has to pick the way s/he feels most comfy.

I only play LEAPs, or long term options, either calls or puts, so I have the room to modify my position when I am confident about the direction but not sure of the timing - obviously many people are able to tell the former but the later. This way I have the best chance to make some profit and time has proven this works for me. I feel this strategy is also simple enough so that I will not lose track.
